closes 32-year career at ITD
A couple of small photographs, displayed prominently
under his computer monitor, were among the last items
Charlie Rountree removed from his Headquarters office
this week. Most of the other visible traces of 32 years
at the Transportation Department had been taken earlier
– shelves emptied, desktop cleared, walls stripped.
But his grandchildren remained.
addresses ways to reduce traffic deaths
Spotlighting successful strategies for reducing motor
vehicle fatalities, ITD’s 2006 Highway Safety
Summit featured an array of speakers from highway safety
professionals to Washington state’s own "Judge
Judy." About 140 professionals from law enforcement,
emergency medical services and ITD attended the event
held Sept. 12 in Boise.
Preston residents celebrate U.S. 91 completion
Motorists continued their steady migration near the Franklin
City Park and rest area Wednesday. In some cases, side-by-side,
on a bed of smooth black asphalt dressed with splashes
of white paint. While they enjoyed the benefits of a newly
constructed U.S. 91 – faster and safer commutes
to and from Logan, Utah – dignitaries assembled
under cloudy skies and a white canopy to formally pronounce
the $21 million construction project finished.
church members to be honored for cleanups
Two southeast Idaho groups come from strikingly
different backgrounds but are united by a common goal
of leaving the world a better, cleaner place. Members
of the Jason Lee United Methodist Church and custodians
of the power county Sheriffs Office will be honored next
week for their shared commitment to clean Idaho’s
highways of refuse left behind by others.
thanks board, department for sendoff
As chairman of the Transportation
Board from 1995 until June 2006 I have gotten to know
many employees at ITD. I have seen your dedication to
the department. I have witnessed your professionalism.
I have experienced your friendship. The open house the
department hosted for me last Friday was greatly appreciated.
