Deadline approaches for optional life insurance enrollment
PERSI retirement members are eligible to purchase additional term life insurance through HealthSmart NCPERS (underwritten by Prudential). The linked brochure details the coverage available.
Employees who are interested in applying for this coverage should please fill in the sections of the enrollment application (last page of the brochure), print, sign and date and return the completed form to Human Resource Services or the appropriate district business office.
Open Enrollment runs through the end of business onTuesday (Nov. 30).
When considering enrolling in this coverage, be aware that your insurance is automatically effective, with no medical evidence requirements. Coverage for your eligible dependents also is automatically included in your monthly premium at no additional charge.

Facts employees need to know
The monthly cost remains the same regardless of your age ($16.00 a month).
You may only enroll in this plan during open enrollment or during new hire enrollment.
You do not have to reenroll if you are currently on the plan.
This life insurance plan can continue after you retire from state service at no extra cost.
You can cancel this coverage at any time.
