David and Linda Stoutner of Pocatello got stuck in the snow while driving on North Bull Canyon Road Friday. David is a retired ITD Port of Entry inspector. They had no cell service in the area, and only minimal survival supplies, so they spent the night in their car.
Saturday Linda hiked up the canyon to try to get her phone to work or find help, while David tried to get the car unstuck.
All day Saturday and part of Sunday David inched the car up the road, but finally abandoned it and went to find Linda. On Sunday she was able to get a little information out from her cell phone before the battery died. Her 911 call was picked up by dispatcher in Box Elder County, Utah, who gave the limited information to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
David reunited with Linda Monday afternoon, and was able to make several short 911 calls from his phone.
Rescuers found them Monday and picked them up with Portneuf Medical Center's LifeFlight. They were taken to the hospital where they were rehydrated. The Power County Sheriff's Office says the couple is doing fine and were in good spirits.
