Employee benchmarking survey available online
Employees are most productive in a work environment that recognizes and values their contributions and promotes opportunities for professional growth. ITD administrators, with support from the transportation board, have commissioned a study to assess the strengths of the work environment and identify areas where improvement is needed.
The survey is available now for employees to complete online. [Go to the survey.]
An extensive survey of ITD’s workplace began this week under the direction of Oasis Consulting Services, an independent research firm that has an established history with transportation and other public organizations. Based in Las Vegas, the Oasis specializes in organization and workforce development.
“I am really impressed with the commitment of our employees to quality and service,” said ITD Director Pam Lowe. “We want to do everything possible to create an even more supportive, rewarding workplace. The survey we began this week will provide valuable information about how employees perceive their work environment and the improvements they think are needed.
“This survey will become a benchmark upon which we can measure our efforts to improve the workplace. Its real value depends on honest, constructive feedback from every employee.
“I want to thank all employees in advance for participating in the survey and for helping us provide the best workplace possible,” Lowe added.
The survey process was initiated by the “Investing in Our People,” focus group as part of ITD’s strategic plan. That plan includes four focus areas that support the department’s mission: “Our Mission. Your Mobility”
The “Investing in Our People” focus group is charged with identifying ways to make ITD more competitive with other employers; create a climate for continued personal growth and development; identify opportunities for workforce development, retention and succession; and to create a positive work environment that enables employees to thrive.
“(The survey’s) purpose is to assist ITD in assuring that your work environment is as productive and satisfying as possible,” says T.J. Brown, of Oasis. (See attached letter) “Your responses, together with those of your fellow employees, will identify areas that are working well and also opportunities for improvement. The results will provide a roadmap, rather than a report card, for the organization. Your responses will also establish a baseline measurement on which to compare over time.”
Completing the online survey through the Oasis Web site will take about 30 minutes. Respondents will remain anonymous and survey data is recorded directly by the consultant. No information will be collected by ITD.
Employees will be asked to provide limited information about their occupational group (section) and only enough specific enough to be useful in assessing the work environment. At no time will employees be asked to provide their name. (See Frequently Asked Questions for details.)
“All responses to this survey are confidential. None of the information you supply will be associated with you individually. Your completed survey will go directly to Oasis Consulting Services and be combined with other replies.”
Aggregate results will be reported to all ITD employees early next year. Managers and supervisors will attend a workshop in 2009 to review the results and identify beneficial steps they can take to improve their workplace.
Employees who do not have access to a computer with Internet capabilities, or those who prefer not to complete the online survey, should ask their business managers for a printed version of the form. Participation is not mandatory, but the survey’s greatest value to employees and the workplace depends on widespread involvement.
