Long-time District 2 design technician Doug Wilhelm passed away unexpectedly on July 15, the result of a heart attack. He joined the District 2 staff in Lewiston after graduating from the drafting program at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston. The following obituary appeared in the July 17 Lewiston Tribune.
Douglas S. Wilhelm, 43, Lewiston
Doug was born Sept. 11, 1964, in Clarkston (Wash.) to Dennis and Pat Wilhelm. Doug excelled in sports, his favorite being baseball. He was a member of American Legion Baseball Cubs and Twins.
Doug graduated from Lewiston High School in 1982. He continued his education at Lewis-Clark State College and received his associate's degree in drafting. Upon graduation he started working for the Idaho State Transportation Department as a design technician, working there for more than 22 years.
He was an avid outdoorsman and looked forward to hunting season, competing with his dad, Dennis; brother, Greg; and nephew, Parker, for the biggest trophy. He always got the biggest elk.
Doug will be remembered by everyone who knew his quiet but dry sense of humor, always pulling pranks on friends and co-workers.
Doug is survived by his three beautiful daughters, Jassmin Wilhelm, Jaide Wilhelm and Jerica Wilhelm, all of Lapwai; ex-wife, Sandra Alfrey of Lapwai; parents, Dennis and Pat Wilhelm of Lewiston; brother, Greg and Sheila Wilhelm of Lewiston; nephews, Parker Hunter and Gunnar Wilhelm, both of Lewiston; cousins Steve and Logan Brown, both of Clarkston; and an aunt and cousins in Yakima, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Herb and Edith Wilhelm; maternal grandparents, Wallace and Naomi Brown; and his aunt Mary Brown.
A memorial service was conducted July 19 at Lapwai Assembly of God, U.S. Highway 95 in Lapwai. Friends can sign the online guest book at www.vassar-rawls.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to a memorial college fund set up at Potlatch Federal Credit Union.
You can run with the "Big Dogs" now. Love, Jazz, Jaide and Jerica.
