Events planned at Headquarters in honor of
Each day of Public Employee Appreciation Week (May 5-9) at ITD will bring new activities at Headquarters and new ways to say thanks for all that employees do throughout the year.
A formal ceremony is planned Monday to introduce employees to a new PerksCard program that provides discounts, coupons and special prices on the goods and services of participating companies. (See related story.) The kickoff ceremony will begin at noon in the auditorium. The cards also will be distributed in each district.
Other events planned for next week in Boise include:
Tuesday: Employee fitness walk, 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. in conjunction with the Wellness Program’s annual fitness challenge.
To participate, sign in at tables outside the south entrance to the Headquarters building. Registration runs from 1:30 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. Maps will be provided indicating two recommended routes for walkers to take. All participants will receive a walk incentive. Employees participating in the Great Wall fitness challenge can record double the time walked on their log sheet.
Members of Executive Management will hand out trail mix to all employees at the south entrance from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. ITD executives provide the gift at their own expense with funding assistance from the employees organization, DoRolCo.
Brandon Jenkins of Born Again Fitness will give a 9 a.m. presentation in the auditorium on “How to Eat and Train for Lifelong Fitness.” He will talk about how what you eat affects you physically and mentally, and about the importance of having an exercise program. The discussion will include nutrition and exercise and how important it is to integrate both to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Wednesday: Jonathan Gonzalez of Gonzalez Massage Therapy will offer 10-minute massages throughout the day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and again on Thursday. The sessions are free to employees, but tips are appreciated.
Jacqueline Kennedy, Facets of Healing, will discuss “Coping with Stress using Meditation and Breathing Techniques," in a 9 a.m. presentation in the auditorium. “Profoundly relaxing and energizing. Learn breath and stillness techniques that help individuals stay centered in the truth, no matter what the external circumstances of one’s life.”
Golf instruction will be offered for beginners at 2 p.m. on the back lawn at Headquarters or, if weather dictates, in the auditorium. Instructor Jeffery Kasier, The Swing, also might show a video and break down elements of Tiger Woods’ swing. The video is about 25 minutes. A question/answer session might follow along with possible demonstration of “short-game” techniques.
Thursday: Gonzalez will continue to offer 10-minute massages from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Scott Compton, Compton School of Self Defense, will present “Personal Safety and Self -Defense” in the auditorium (time to be announced). He will talk about effective self-defense concepts that reveal the secrets of awareness, the proper use of pepper spray and some simple escape and evasion techniques.
Friday: A prize will be awarded to the person who comes closest to guessing the contents of a jar that will be on display in the lobby. Estimates will be accepted throughout the week. Employees also are invited to wear a crazy hat on Friday.
Short comedy films will be shown from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the auditorium. Popcorn will be provided.
