“Each year, the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) sponsors this life-saving campaign to help employers promote safe driving practices within their place of business.,” according to information from the organization.
“This year NETS celebrates the 10th year of the campaign. By participating in the campaign, employers improve the safety and health of their employees and reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries in their workforce.”
“The campaign may only last a week, but the Responsible Driving message is valid year-round.”
According to NETS, one of every five drivers will be involved in a traffic crash each year. The most dangerous part of the workday for any employee is the time spent in a vehicle. Every five seconds a crash occurs nationwide, and every 12 minutes someone dies in a traffic crash. Many of the incidents occur during the workday. In fact, one in four work-related deaths are attributed to traffic-related trauma.
Campaign materials were developed for drivers to help them know what to anticipate, from their vehicle, the roadway and themselves.
The organization offers 10 Steps to Responsible Driving, positive measures that each driver can take to ensure his or her safety and the safety of others who share the road:
