Forum planned to discuss transportation's future
Idahoans will travel two billion miles by car, truck and bus in 2020 more than triple the mileage of today. In 2040, that mileage is expected to double again.
To search for innovative answers, more than 40 of the states top economic leaders and strategic thinkers are forming a Forum on Transportation Investment to study the issues and make recommendations. A news conference launching the forum is planned Monday.
Citizens want a future that includes a variety of transportation choices,
Winder said. They also want it to support Idahos high quality of life; they want to be engaged in decision-making and want these goals achieved within the bounds of reasonable funding in new ways.
Speakers at the news conference include Winder, Tom Warne, former Utah Department of Transportation Director and John Horsley, Executive Director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
Details of the forums goals and tasks will be outlined
at the press conference.
