The Bottom Line
issued to ITD motorcycle-riding employees
Motorcycle riders at Headquarters plan to participate in the 13th annual Ride to Work Day, a national event that draws attention to the benefits of commuting on motorcycles. They also encourage riders at ITDs districts and other locations to participate.
In Boise, a portion of one parking lot will be cordoned off for riders to park and display their motorcycles. A 10 a.m. photo shoot is planned. They have scheduled a noon ride around the Headquarters campus.
Anyone interested in helping to organize the event should contact Vince Main in the Materials section at Headquarters, ext. 4436. More information about the national event is available on the Ride to Work web site, http://www.ridetowork.org .
Ride to Work Day is organized to demonstrate:
The new apparatus analyzes the rhythm of a heart, and if necessary, prompts the operator to deliver a shock to a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. Only trained and certified personnel are permitted to use the AED and administer procedures to a victim.
In the event of a cardiac or other life-threatening emergency, workers in the Annex should request medical assistance by dialing 9-911. This will activate an alarm for Joe Peagler and initiate the emergency medical response system.
I will immediately retrieve the AED. It is important for one person familiar with the location of the emergency to be at the AED location so he or she can lead me to the emergency site, Peagler said.
The AED is located in a red box in the hall directly across from the chemistry lab. It is clearly marked AED on both sides and on the glass door. There also is a first aid kit and fire extinguisher at the same location.
Jeff Miles is recruiting Annex personnel for a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/AED/first aid course to be held in District 3. The course is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on July 14. Presented by the American Red Cross, the course will lead to certification in AED and CPR. It also covers workplace recognition of emergencies, actions to take in emergencies, and basic first aid.
Anyone interested in taking the class should contact Miles
