Project Facts

Project Number: A013(812)
Key Number: 13812
MP 55.12 - 56.31

The Idaho Transportation Department will be reconstructing and
widening I-84 to add a third lane in each direction between the
Broadway Avenue Interchange and Gowen Road Interchange.

Background

This project is a result of an Environmental Assessment and a planning study for I-84 from just west of the Orchard Interchange to the Isaacs Canyon Interchange (Eisenman Road). The interstate, built in the late 1960s, was not designed to handle the current traffic volumes. The study recommended improvements for this corridor, including replacing the existing pavement, adding lanes to the interstate, installation of soundwalls, and reconstructing the Orchard, Vista, Broadway, and Gowen interchanges to meet future traffic capacity requirements.

ITD received environmental approval for this project from the Federal Highway Administration in November 2007. For more information about the Environmental Assessment, click here.

Schedule

Preliminary design is anticipated to be complete in March 2013
and final design to be completed by June 2013. All right-of-way
is scheduled to be acquired by June 2013. Construction is
anticipated to begin in December 2013 with a substantial
completion date of February 2015.
