What is Operation Wildflower?

Operation Wildflower is ITD´s program that promotes native and desirable wildflower growth along state highway right-of-way.

Adopt-A-Highway volunteer groups may apply to plant wildflowers on their adopted section of state highway right-of-way.

What types of Wildflowers may be planted?

The Vegetation Foreman in the district where the adopted section is located determines the appropriate species for planting on approved sections.

How do I get an Operation Wildflower application?

Refer to the Operation Wildflower home page for links to documents and forms and also to the Operation Wildflower Program Packet. If you would prefer a hard copy of the Operation Wildflower Program Packet mailed to you, please refer to the Contacts link in the left menu and telephone the contact person for the area where the section of state highway right-of-way is located.

Where do I send my completed application?

The completed ITD 2831 Operation Wildflower Application is submitted to the contact person in the district where the section of state highway right-of-way is located.

How do I know if my Operation Wildflower application has been approved?

If your application is approved, the contact person for the area where the section of state highway right-of-way is located will mail you an acceptance letter and planting instructions. If your application is not approved you will receive a denial letter that includes information about why the section is not suitable for seeding.

How do I get supplies and wildflower seeds?

Your acceptance letter will be signed by the contact person in the district where the section of state highway right-of-way is located. The contact´s telephone number should be included on the letter. You can also refer to the Contacts link on the Operation Wildflower home page to find contact and telephone information.

How long is my commitment to plant/maintain wildflowers on my section?

Eligibility for the Operation Wildflower Program is limited to your section of highway right-of-way adopted for litter pickups. If the Adopt-A-Highway Program agreement is canceled, the group is no longer eligible to participate in Operation Wildflower.
