Purpose:

The Excellence in Transportation Award is sponsored annually by the Idaho Transportation Department to recognize outstanding initiatives to develop, plan, and implement transportation projects throughout Idaho.

Any firm or agency engaged in transportation related projects in Idaho is eligible to enter. Submitted projects must be located in Idaho. The entry must be a public transportation improvement or project completed in the last three calendar years inclusive of the current year and presently in use. Projects submitted in previous years may be resubmitted if completed during the aforementioned time span. Winning projects from previous years are ineligible. A project may be entered in as many categories as desired. A separate application must be submitted for each category entry.

Recognition and Awards:

Two awards will be given in each category; one for small projects and one for large projects. An award will be given for each winning project. Individuals contributing to a winning project will receive certificates of recognition.

The award categories are:

  • Transportation Planning
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Public Participation
  • Design

Award Criteria:

  1. Innovation: Describe what innovative engineering, design or construction approaches were used to overcome project challenges and what makes these efforts unique. Describe what types of successes have occurred as a result of this innovative process.
  2. Context Sensitive Solutions: Describe any approaches that integrated and balanced community, aesthetic, historic, and environmental value with transportation safety, maintenance, and performance goals.
  3. Community and Public Involvement: Describe how this project successfully engaged the community in the planning process and the benefits of the public’s input. How has the community and public involvement process for this project made a positive difference in the community?
