SAFETY ISSUES

Transit Safety is the link to FTA Safety and Security publications. All the publications are listed by subject area, please take a look at them and find more about Federal Transit Administration. A very helpful site is the Bus Transit Safety Resource Guide available through the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR).

SECURITY

Check federal plans towards public safety and watch the "Threat Advisor"- a colored indicator of present security status at Department of Homeland Security

The Idaho Transportation Department invites riders, drivers and employees to be the “eyes and ears” of their local transit system. The Federal Transit Administration created Transit Watch, a nationwide safety and security awareness campaign, designed to encourage the active participation of transit passengers and employees in working together to maintain a safe transit environment everywhere. They are provided information and instructions to transit passengers and employees so that they know what to do and whom to contact in the event of an emergency in a transit setting.

The Department of Homeland Security created Highway Watch. Highway Watch® is another innovative program that trains transportation professionals - commercial truck drivers, highway workers, city transit workers, bus drivers, law enforcement personnel, first responders, company executives, and operations managers – to recognize and respond to potential safety and terrorist activity that they may encounter in the normal course of doing their everyday jobs. Just added is the newest component of the Highway Watch® program, School Bus Watch, specifically designed to address the needs of school bus drivers, who daily transport our most precious cargo – our children.
