Interagency Coordination Pilot Project (District 5)
During State Fiscal Year 2001 the IWG initiated
the development of a pilot project in ITD District 5, the goal of which is to
“bring about greater efficiency and effectiveness in the rendering of public
transportation services through greater coordination between all agencies
involved.” Specifically, the pilot was intended to achieve this goal by
stimulating an interagency cooperative effort designed to maximize the use of
Pocatello Regional Transit (PRT) as it’s one-stop resource for coordinating and
providing public transportation services. The project has moved well beyond the
“pilot” stage. Interagency coordination and rural transit services provided by
PRT have been expanded into Oneida, Franklin, Power, Bingham and Caribou
Counties. Other significant work accomplished on this project
include:
-
Coordination
discussions between the IWG agencies regional staff, PRT and the pilot
coordinator to explore the pilot objectives and opportunities
-
The development of a
project management schedule outlining the manner in which IWG member agencies
from the state level will support the project and coordinate with their
regional counterparts in a manner conducive to project implementation in a
manner most supportive of PRT
-
The development of a
communications plan that provides guidance and clarity in communicating pilot
goals and objectives and emphasizes the interagency collaborative nature of
the project
-
Notable support
from the local
Area on Aging
-
Completion of a plan for
installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technologies at PRT
-
Funding secured and Request
for Proposals (RFP’s) developed for the purchase of ITS technologies at PRT
