ITD I-84, Cole Interchange to Broadway Interchange
![]() Project Facts
Project Numbers: A009(819), A009(820) and A009(823) This project widened 3.2 miles of Interstate 84 between Cole Road and Broadway Avenue, making I-84 eight-lanes wide. The existing rough pavement was replaced with new concrete. A new drainage system was installed to improve driver safety during wet conditions. The improvements will reduce congestion and will allow the roadway to safely accommodate future traffic volumes. Background
This project is a result of an Environmental Assessment and a planning study for I-84 from just west of the Orchard Interchange to the Isaacs Canyon Interchange (Eisenman Road). The interstate, built in the late 1960s, was not designed to handle the current traffic volumes. The study recommended improvements for this corridor, including replacing the existing pavement, adding lanes to the interstate, installation of soundwalls, and reconstructing the Orchard, Vista, Broadway, and Gowen interchanges to meet future traffic capacity requirements. ITD received environmental approval for this project from the Federal Highway Administration in November 2007. For more information about the Environmental Assessment, click here. Schedule
Preliminary design was completed in May 2008 and final design was completed in February 2009. Construction began in September 2009 and substantial completion was achieved July 2011. Compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act
