Project Number: A011(007)
As part of the I-84 widening from Garrity to Meridian, the Idaho Transportation Department reconstructed the bridges at Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Road. The old bridge columns were too close together to allow construction of additional lanes on I-84. The project is part of the I-84 expansion from Nampa to Meridian, which began in early 2008.
In 2001, the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) and ITO completed a cooperative planning effort called the I-84 Corridor study. The study examined the transportation system needs I-84 corridor from the WYE Interchange to Idaho 44 west of Caldwell. The study recommended specific improvements that warranted further evaluation and implementation. The recommendation was included in the COMPASS study.
Preliminary design was completed in January, 2008 and final design was completed in July, 2008. Right-of-way acquisition was completed in July, 2008. Construction began in September 2008 and the project was completed in April 2009.
